The Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C turbocharged 2-stroke diesel engine is claimed to be the most powerful and most efficient "prime-mover" in the world today. The Aloi Works of Japan's Diesel United, Ltd. built the first engines and is where this photo was taken.

This engine was designed primarily for use on large ships. It seems that ship owners prefer one engine and one propeller. Each cylinder displaces 111,143  cubic inches and produces 7780 horsepower. The 14-cylinder version has just over a million and a half cubic inches and puts out just over 100,000 horsepower at about 100 rpm.
